Zach Benson has the potential to be even better in 2026-27.
The Buffalo Sabres took a major step in the right direction last season, and Zach Benson was certainly one of the reasons for it.
Benson was very good for the Sabres last season, posting new career highs with 13 goals, 30 assists, and 43 points in 65 games. He also made a big impact during the playoffs with his offense and agitating play, recording five goals, nine points, and 64 penalty minutes in 13 games.
With this, Benson certainly cemented himself as a key part of the Sabres' roster last season. It was what helped earn him his big seven-year, $52.5 million contract earlier this off-season.
However, with Benson still being just 21 years old, he undoubtedly has the potential to hit another new level as he enters his fourth NHL season with the Sabres.
It would not be surprising if Benson's offensive production improves next season. This is especially so when noting that he should have a permanent top-six spot in the Sabres' lineup due to Buffalo moving on from Alex Tuch this off-season. With this, Benson should be put in a position to succeed next season with the Sabres.
If Benson can take another step forward in his development next season and emerge as a 50- to 60-point player, it would be huge for a Sabres club that is looking to have another successful year in 2026-27. It will be intriguing to see what kind of season Benson has from here.
