This former Sabres goaltender has landed an NHL contract with this Metropolitan Division club.
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Dustin Tokarski to a one-year, two-way contract. At the NHL level, Tokarski will carry a $775,000 cap hit.
Tokarski, 35, was signed to an American Hockey League (AHL) contract with the Hurricanes' affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. In five games with the Wolves this season, he has a 4-1-0 record, a .933 save percentage (SV%), and a 1.61 goals-against average (GAA).
While the Hurricanes have signed Tokarski to an NHL deal, their plan is to keep him down in the AHL with the Wolves. They placed the veteran netminder on waivers shortly after signing his NHL contract. This was needed for him to continue to play at the AHL level after signing his new NHL deal.
Tokarski appeared in 42 games over two seasons with the Sabres, where he had a 12-20-7 record, a .901 SV%, and a 3.35 GAA.
Tokarski also played last season with the Sabres' AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, where he had an 11-9-3 record, a .890 SV%, and a 3.32 GAA in 24 games.
