This former Buffalo Sabres top prospect will be sporting a new number in Edmonton.
Earlier this offseason, the Buffalo Sabres made a big move, trading former top prospect Matthew Savoie to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forwards Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. With the Sabres having a deep prospect pool and needing a 3C, GM Kevyn Adams felt comfortable parting ways with the 2022 ninth-overall pick.
The Oilers recently revealed that Savoie will wear a new number for them. With longtime Oiler Ryan Nugent-Hopkins wearing his preferred No. 93, Savoie will rock No. 22 with Edmonton.
This is a change for Savoie, as he wore No. 93 with the Sabres, Rochester Americans, Moose Jaw Warriors, and Wenatchee Ice. However, he did wear No. 22 during his loan season in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, where he posted 21 goals and 38 points in 34 games.
With RNH, one of the Oilers' top players for over a decade, wearing No. 93, a number change was in order for Savoie. Now, he will be sporting No. 22 because of it and will look to make an impact in Edmonton from here.
