Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Mark Pysyk has signed a one-year contract with SaiPa of the Finnish Liiga.

Pysyk, 32, landed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Anaheim Ducks this past training camp, but it did not result in a contract for the season. Now, the veteran defender will continue his career overseas because of it.

Pysyk spent this past season down in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 37 games split between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Calgary Wranglers, he had four assists and a minus-4 rating.

Pysyk was selected by the Sabres with the 23rd overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 193 games over two stints as a Sabre, he had eight goals, 38 points, and 122 hits. He also served as an alternate captain with the Sabres during the 2021-22 season, the last time he appeared in the NHL.
