The Buffalo Sabres are heading out on their longest road trip of the season to date, starting in Winnipeg on Friday, and will be getting many of their injured players back in the lineup.
Forwards Alex Tuch, Zach Benson, and Jordan Greenway, along with goalie Eric Comrie all took part in practice at Key Bank Center on Thursday before the club departed for Manitoba, with head coach Don Granato indicating that all could be available against the Jets.
"It was something that took a little bit longer than I originally anticipated, but it's a long season, so it was something that we didn't want to flare up again," Tuch said. "It was really tough on me to miss (Kyle Okposo's) 1000th game. That's something I really push hard for. I thought it was gonna be back even before that, but didn't work out how I wanted it, but now I just want to be able to step in and help my team in whatever way possible."
Tuch missed three games with an unspecified upper-body injury, just as he was breaking out of an early slump. The veteran winger scored two goals (including the game-winner) in a 6-4 victory over Toronto on November 4, and another tally in a 3-2 overtime loss to Carolina on November 7.
His return is even more important in the wake of the injury to center Tage Thompson, who could be out as long as two months with a hand injury.
"(Tage is) a huge loss on and off the ice. It's not going to be easy here. It was a really rough game (against Boston) and that was tough to see." Tuch said. "He's gonna come back and just stronger than ever. We just have to hold down the fort until that happens."
