The vibes are excellent with the Buffalo Sabres right now. The Sabres have won each of their last eight games and are now at the top of the Atlantic Division standings with a 40-19-6 record.
However, as awesome as the Sabres have been playing right now, there is still a big question following them. Star forward Alex Tuch remains a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) and is the best forward who could hit the market this off-season by a significant margin.
With how important of a player Tuch is to the Sabres, they should work incredibly hard to get him extended. Losing him would create a big hole in their forward group.
Now a new update on the Tuch extension talks has been provided.
According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Sabres have not stopped contract talks with Tuch and are still working to get him locked up to a new deal.
"As for an actual update on the Tuch negotiations, I checked into it on Thursday, and talks have not been shelved yet. There’s still time before the playoffs next month, and the Sabres are still determined to make it work on an extension. We shall see. But at the very least, it’s noteworthy that both sides are still communicating on it and that talks haven’t been shelved yet," LeBrun wrote.
When noting that the Sabres are on the rise and Tuch is one of their best players, it makes sense that they are still looking to get him signed. It would be massive if they extended him, but time will tell if they can successfully do that.
In 64 games this season with the Sabres, Tuch has recorded 28 goals, 29 assists, 57 points, and 69 hits.
