
Team Canada announced their roster for the 2025 World Junior squad for the tournament later this month in Ottawa later this month and after being chosen as one of four netminders for the club’s selection camp, Buffalo Sabres prospect Scott Ratzlaff was the lone goalie to be cut.
Ratzlaff, the Sabres 2023 fifth-round pick had an impressive 25-8-1 record, 2.15 GAA, .918 save percentage and played for Canada in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2023, became the primary starter for a rebuilding Seattle Thunderbirds squad last season, putting up more pedestrian numbers (21-26-2, 3.33 GAA, .905 save percentage), but was still selected as the third goalie for Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championships in Sweden.
The 19-year-old has not put up great numbers for the rebuilding Thunderbirds this season (8-9-2, 3.61 GAA, .893 save percentage), and was beaten out by 2023 draftee Carson Bjarnason (Philadelphia), 2024 draftee Carter George (Los Angeles) and 17-year-old Jack Ivankovic.
Sabres prospects Adam Kleber and Brodie Ziemer (USA), Anton Wahlberg (Sweden), Maxim Strbak (Slovakia), and Norwin Panocha (Germany) have been selected, and 2024 first-rounder Konsta Helenius (Finland) is expected to be chosen.
