    Sabres Benefiting From Goaltending Logjam

The Buffalo Sabres are one of many NHL clubs carrying three goalies on their roster, and that has proved to be beneficial for them early this season with rookie goalie Devon Levi out with a lower-body injury.

Both Eric Comrie and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen have played well with Levi out, as the Sabres have gone 2-1 with their backups after starting out 1-3 with Levi in goal.

On Thursday, Sabres head coach Don Granato provided an update on the 21-year-old’s status, indicating that the lower-body injury he suffered during a 4-3 loss to Calgary on October 19 is still hampering Levi.

"The soreness hasn't resolved to the point that under our situation with three goaltenders and Comrie and (Luukkonen) playing well in their last two games, we're not pushing based on that." Granato said, "There's no need to push it, we have three goalies and that's the luxury when it comes to this."

The Sabres schedule is fairly light over the next two weeks, playing on the road in New Jersey on Friday, at home against Colorado on Sunday, and a home-and-home with Philadelphia next Wednesday and Friday.

Depending on how long Levi is out, Granato was asked whether the club would consider sending the youngster down to the American Hockey League on a conditioning stint while Comrie and Luukkonen shared the duties, and he thinks that would likely not be necessary and something they haven’t given any thought to.
