Dahlin scuffled with Krebs after an open-ice hit

Dahlin scuffled with Krebs after an open-ice hit

Sabres Captain Scraps With Teammate At Practice

Teammates fighting is an annual occurrence at most NFL training camps and was more commonplace in the NHL in years past, but it is a noteworthy event when it does happen. After a day off and their first win of the season, the Buffalo Sabres assembled for a high-paced practice at LECOM Harborcenter on Monday, but instead of a workout filled with ebullience, things turned ugly.

During a drill early in the workout, team captain Rasmus Dahlin knocked down center Peyton Krebs with an open-ice hip check. The hit drew a response from the feisty forward, who dropped the gloves and went after the big defenseman. The two exchanged blows and had to be separated by teammates.

After practice, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said that the fight was precipitated by an earlier incident in which Krebs brushed with Dahlin.

"I think (Dahlin) got bumped before (the fight), and then he evened up to score," Ruff said after practice. "I wouldn't read too much into that, we just want a competitive practice, so I think every now and then the emotions will run a little bit high, but that's a good place to be."

Both players after practice downplayed the incident, saying that it was a result of the type of hard practice that Ruff wants to have and that the passions were just running high.

"Stuff happens out there, I regret it now.....I apologized to (Krebs). So it's all good. That's how it is out there." Dahlin said. "Practice moved on, like five seconds later, and it was all good."

The Sabres will practice on Tuesday before heading to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins on Wednesday in the first game of their three-game road trip.
