The Buffalo Sabres are one of the clubs that have been connected to Los Angeles Kings forward Arthur Kaliyev this offseason. Given the fact that they need some help on the wing, it would not be surprising if they still have him on their radar as we inch closer to August.
Kaliyev has requested a trade, and Kings GM Rob Blake has been looking to move him. With the Sabres still needing more forward depth, they should make a serious push for him before the start of the season.
Kaliyev, 23, is coming off a down season, posting seven goals, 15 points, and a minus-3 rating in 51 games. Due to his struggles, he fell down the Kings' depth chart and was scratched for all their playoff games. While he had a shaky campaign, he would still have the potential to be a notable addition to the Sabres' lineup.
Arthur KaliyevKaliyev is a former top prospect who has previously shown plenty of promise in the NHL. For example, during the 2022-23 season, the 6-foot-2 winger posted 13 goals and 28 points in 56 games. If he got his production back up to this level, he would be a strong addition to the Sabres' top nine and power play.
Furthermore, at only 23 years old, Kaliyev can still take another big step forward in his development. Sometimes, a change of scenery can help a player, and Kaliyev could benefit from a move to Buffalo.
Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see if the Sabres' reported interest in Kaliyev leads to them landing him before the start of the season. Given the fact that he is a young, skilled forward with size, he would be worth taking a gamble on.
