With the Buffalo Sabres looking to add a top-six forward, they have, understandably, been viewed as a possible landing spot for Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas. The 25-year-old is expected to be moved this offseason.

While the Sabres certainly have plenty of valuable assets to work with, it appears that they may not be the best trading partner for the Hurricanes in a potential Necas move.

In a recent episode of The Jeff Marek Show, the NHL insider had this to say about the Sabres and Necas: "I would've normally wondered about a team like the Buffalo Sabres. Eventually, Buffalo has to turn a lot of the prospects and draft capital into something here. They have a lot of it, but I don't think any of that works for the Carolina Hurricanes."

The Sabres' most valuable trading asset is their immensely deep prospect pool, so hearing that the Hurricanes are not looking for this certainly does not help their chances of bringing in a star like Necas. They would need to go in a different direction with their potential trade package to land him instead.

If the Sabres end up missing out on Necas, they could have several other scoring winger options in free agency. A few players who could hit the market this summer include Tyler Toffoli, Jonathan Marchessault, Teuvo Teravainen, Patrick Kane, Tyler Bertuzzi, Jake DeBrusk, and Daniel Sprong.
