The Buffalo Sabres have had an eventful 2026 NHL off-season. Yet, when looking at their current roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another scoring winger. This is especially so when noting that they moved on from Alex Tuch this off-season.

However, with it now being nearly three weeks into free agency, there are not a ton of notable unrestricted free agents (UFAs) left. Yet, one UFA still on the table who the Sabres should consider taking a chance on is Vladimir Tarasenko. 

Tarasenko may no longer be the top star he was during his prime years, but he showed last season with the Minnesota Wild that he can still make a real impact. In 75 games during the 2025-26 campaign with Minnesota, he posted 23 goals and 47 points.

With numbers like these, Tarasenko could slot nicely in Buffalo's middle six if signed. He would also offer them another obvious option for their power play because of his scoring ability. 

Tarasenko's playoff experience also adds to his appeal in a major way. The veteran forward has two Stanley Cup championships on his resume. With the Sabres being a team on the rise, it would not hurt for them to add a multi-time Cup winner like Tarasenko on a short-term contract.
