The Calgary Flames have been one of the busiest teams in the trade market. Last season, they dealt Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin, and Chris Tanev. They also continued their trend as sellers this summer, trading Jacob Markstrom and Andrew Mangiapane.
It's clear that the Flames are rebuilding their roster, and it is possible that they might not be done parting ways with their valuable trade pieces because of it. If forward Blake Coleman is made available, he is a player the Buffalo Sabres should target.
It would not be too shocking if the Flames eventually were open to hearing offers for Coleman. As noted above, they have parted ways with several veterans, and Coleman fits that description at 32 years old. In addition, he improved his trade value after his excellent 2023-24 season, so the Flames could be in a good spot to move him. In 78 games last season, the Plano, Texas native posted 30 goals, 54 points, and a plus-19 rating.

If the Sabres added Coleman, he would be a big addition to their top nine, as he not only can score but is also solid defensively and plays a chippy game. In addition, he is capable of playing on both the wing and down the middle, so he could fit virtually anywhere in the Sabres' lineup if acquired.
With the Sabres needing more impactful forwards, Coleman is a player that they should have on their radar. If he is officially made available by the Flames, don't be shocked if the Sabres enter the sweepstakes.
