Buffalo heading out on the road for seven of the next eight

Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato provided an update on a number of players who have been unavailable due to injury. The focus on Wednesday was on the injury to center Tage Thompson, who could be out upwards of two months with an upper-body injury, but in his absence, the need for all hands on deck is essential to stay in the playoff race until Thompson returns.

"Injuries take you out of any continuity. We all want continuity. We all want consistency and unfortunately, injuries really dictate that you don't have" Granato said. "It's a challenge. It definitely can disrupt rhythm and the continuity that you can only hope (for)."

Winger Alex Tuch (who missed the last two games with an upper-body injury), and goalie Eric Comrie (who has not played since October 27 in New Jersey), and rookie Zach Benson (who last played on October 29) are expected to be full participants at practice on Thursday.

Winger Jordan Greenway was hobbled blocking a shot on Tuesday, but the Sabres head coach doesn’t expect he will miss any time.

"He's sore today, I would expect him to practice tomorrow and be ready for Friday," Granato said

Peyton Krebs left the club to tend to a family matter and will meet the club in Winnipeg, where they will take on the Jets on Friday.

While no roster moves were announced on Wednesday, the Sabres will likely place Thompson on IR and could call up a forward to replace him on the roster. Rochester’s Jiri Kulich has nine goals in 12 games, but previously the club opted to keep the 19-year-old on the AHL and recalled 25-year-old Brandon Biro instead.
