Right before the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Buffalo Sabres signed forward Jason Zucker to a two-year, $9.5 million ($4.75 million AAV) contract. It was no secret that the Sabres were interested in keeping the veteran forward around, and they did just that by getting him signed to this extension.

While the Sabres likely could have gotten a nice return for Zucker in a trade, it is clear that the Sabres made the right call signing him to a new contract. He will now continue to be a key part of the Sabres' roster as they look to turn things around next season. In addition, they got him to stick around at a very reasonable cap hit.

Zucker has been a spectacular fit with the Sabres all season and one of their top offensive contributors. In 54 games this season with the Atlantic Division squad, he has 18 goals, 44 points, and a plus-4 rating. He has also stayed hot down the stretch, posting 13 points over his last 11 games.

Ultimately, the Sabres need impactful veterans around as they look to take that next step, and extending Zucker gives them one beyond this season. It will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he can make with the Sabres from here.
