The 2022 first-rounder’s club eliminated from the SHL Playoffs

Sabres Hoping Levi Has Deep Playoff Run In Rochester

The Rochester Americans may be getting some help in their pursuit of a Calder Cup after reaching the Eastern Conference Final last season. The Amerks got some reinforcements late last month when 2023 second-round pick Anton Wahlberg came over to North America, and now it looks as if 2022 first-rounder Noah Ostlund will be arriving soon.

The 20-year-old was an observer for Rochester’s deep playoff run last season after Djurgardens IF (relegated to the second level HockeyAllsvenskan) was eliminated from the playoffs. Ostlund opted to return to Sweden this season, shifted to the SHL Champion Vaxjo Lakers, and played for his country in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships.

The 16th overall pick tied for the club lead with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in seven games in the tournament, winning a silver medal, and had 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists) in 38 games with Vaxjo. The Lakers made it to the SHL Semi-Final but were swept by Rogle BK.

In the elimination game, Ostlund played only 4:03, something which Sabres prospect guru Kris Baker believes could be related to an injury that was re-aggravated in Game 3 of the series.

Depending on his health, Ostlund could be reunited with World Junior linemate Anton Wahlberg, who has enjoyed some early success in the AHL.

2022 top pick Matthew Savoie could also rejoin the Amerks. The 20-year-old played two games in the playoffs last season and six games on an AHL conditioning stint in October before being sent back to the WHL. Savoie’s Moose Jaw Warriors swept Brandon in the first round of the WHL Playoffs and begin their second-round series against Swift Current on Friday.
