The Buffalo Sabres have announced the numbers for their new players.
The Buffalo Sabres made an array of new roster additions this offseason. This is understandable, as changes were needed after another year of missing the playoffs.
On Tuesday, the Sabres announced the numbers for each of their new players.
Ryan McLeod will sport No. 71 for the Sabres, just like he did with the Edmonton Oilers. The last Sabre to wear No. 71 was Victor Olofsson this past season.
Jason Zucker will wear a new number in Buffalo: No. 17. Throughout his career, he has worn No. 16, but he couldn't in Buffalo because it is retired for legend Pat LaFontaine.
Sam Lafferty, who wore No. 18 last season with the Vancouver Canucks, is also making a switch. Since Danny Gare's No. 18 is retired, Lafferty will wear No. 81 for the Sabres.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel won't be making a change with his new team. He will wear No. 96, just like he did with the Washington Capitals. The last player to wear No. 96 for the Sabres was Anders Bjork during the 2022-23 season.
James Reimer will continue to wear No. 47, just like he did during his stints with the Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks, and Detroit Red Wings. Malcolm Subban was the last player to wear No. 47 for the Sabres during the 2021-22 season.
Recently signed Beck Malenstyn is making a change, as he will wear No. 29 for the Sabres. During his four-year stint with the Washington Capitals, he wore No. 47.
Dennis Gilbert will also be making a switch, as he is set to wear No. 8 for the Sabres. Over the last two seasons with the Calgary Flames, he had No. 48. The last player to wear No. 8 for the Sabres was Riley Sheahan in 2022-23.
