The Buffalo Sabres were scheduled to play the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night, but due to a heavy lake effect snowstorm that caused the city of Buffalo and surrounding suburbs to institute driving bans, the club announced that the game would be postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, January 18 at 7 pm.
Sabres head coach Don Granato spoke to the media via Zoom on Wednesday morning after the club held a morning skate prior to the postponement and did not have an update on the health status of defenseman Mattias Samuelsson.
Samuelsson did not play in the 3-0 victory over San Jose on Monday after leaving Saturday’s game against Vancouver early in the second period in concussion protocol.
Ennis Announces Retirement
Former Sabre Tyler Ennis has announced his retirement from professional hockey after 15 seasons. The 34-year-old was Buffalo’s first-round pick (26th overall) in 2008 and played 13 seasons in the NHL, with the first eight as a member of the Sabres. The Edmonton, Alberta native was dealt to Minnesota in 2017 along with Marcus Foligno for former Sabre Jason Pominville and Marco Scandella and spent a year with the Wild, and stints with Ottawa, Toronto, and Edmonton before playing last season in Switzerland.
Ennis suffered a neck injury playing for Adler Mannheim in the DEL last November and chose to retire rather than continue his career. In 700 career NHL games, Ennis had 346 points (144 goals, 202 assists) in 700 regular-season games, with a career-high 21 goals coming while a member of the Sabres in 2013-14.
