Olofsson, Greenway not on the ice due to illness

Sabres Update - Okposo Practices, Greenway, Olofsson Ill

The Buffalo Sabres practiced at Key Bank Center on Monday coming off a pair of road victories in Montreal and Pittsburgh to start the 2024 calendar, and surprisingly, team captain Kyle Okposo was on the ice.

The veteran winger suffered a lower-body injury against the Ottawa Senators on New Year’s Eve and was diagnosed as being out week-to-week, but returned to the ice after just eight days.

"I felt (the injury) not actually when I did it, it was weird, I jumped out for the next shift to take the faceoff and was feeling it then and your adrenaline takes over and you just finish," Okposo said.

"I'm just trying to try to get back into it. I had no hesitation out there. I still have to kind of figure things out.”

Okposo said that his return to the lineup would depend on how the injury responds to getting back on the ice, and that if he does not make it back for the first game of a six-game homestand against Seattle on Tuesday, that he might be able to get back into the lineup later in the week.

Wingers Victor Olofsson and Jordan Greenway were absent at practice due to illness, and head coach Don Granato indicated were day-to-day but did not rule them out for Tuesday night’s match with the Kraken.
