Three Takeaways From The Buffalo Sabres 6-1 Win Over The Montreal Canadiens

    La première étoile

Rookie Devon Levi said on Wednesday before leaving for Montreal that his first start at the Bell Centre was extra special since his favorite goalie growing up was Canadiens star Carey Price. Levi in his first start in his hometown barn emulated Price, as he kept the Habs off the scoreboard in a scoreless first period and allowed only Joel Armia’s short-handed goal in the second period on 33 shots.

Power Play Finds The Mark (Finally)

To say that the Sabres have struggled with the man advantage this season would be an understatement, and is one of the many reasons why they are trailing in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but Buffalo took advantage of one of the league’s worst penalty-killing units, with a pair of power-play goals from Casey Mittelstadt and Jeff Skinner 86 seconds apart in the second period.

    Mighty Quinn

No one expected Jack Quinn to come out of the blocks like Usain Bolt after missing six months following an Achilles injury, but he has been remarkable since returning to the lineup late last month. The 22-year-old scored early in the third period on a screenshot past Jake Allen to extend the Buffalo lead to 3-1, and has now scored four goals in seven games.
