Comrie and Luukkonen set to play in Buffalo’s first back-to-back of the season
The Buffalo Sabres did not have rookie goaltender Devon Levi on the ice at the Key Bank Center on Monday for the morning skate prior to the final game of their four-game homestand against the Montreal Canadiens.
Levi, who started the first four games for Buffalo (1-3-0, 3.26 GAA, .892 save %) suffered a lower-body injury in a 4-3 loss to Calgary last Thursday and did not participate in practice the following day and only did light skating drills during an optional skate on Saturday.
"Devon is still nursing what is nagging him. We don't expect it to be much longer, and it's certainly not long term, but because it's nagging, we don't want to aggravate it.” Sabres head coach Don Granato said. “You want to allow for enough rest, so it heals completely. It's one of those deals that can linger if you don't take the time to resolve it."
Eric Comrie made his first start of the season on Saturday and made 24 saves in a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders. Comrie will make his second start against Montreal.
Granato indicated that it is likely that Levi will be held out of both ends of the Sabres first back-to-back this season, which means that Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will see his first action on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators in Kanata, ON.
