Flames Veteran Gets Engaged Beachside During 4-Nations Face-off Break

Calgary Flames winger Jonathan Huberdeau makes his second big personal announcement of the season on Instagram after revealing upcoming foray into fatherhood

Jonathan Huberdeau made a massive announcement via Instagram earlier this season, letting Calgary Flames fans and the world know he was going to be a father. During the 4-Nations Face-off break, he added a proposal.

    On Valentine's Day, no less.

Huberdeau announced his engagement to Catherine Deslongchamps with photos illustrating a beautiful ocean-side proposal that included a path lined with flowers leading to a massive floral heart, where the Flames winger asked the big question.

“My forever Valentine,” Huberdeau wrote in the caption.

Plenty of congratulatory notes followed from teammates and loved ones.

Flames fans have been crushing on Huberdeau's game at times this season. He's enjoying a bit of a rejuvenation with 21 goals and 41 points through 55 games so far. That pace of 30-plus snipes and 61 points over a full season would be firsts in three years with the Calgary Flames following the blockbuster NHL trade with the Florida Panthers that saw Matthew Tkachuk go the Cats.

He's had a difficult transition in trying to live up to his $10.5-million annual salary-cap hit but has found a new groove this season — which includes a more rounded overall game and the addition of penalty killing to his duties. Huberdeau is averaging more than 19 minutes of ice time per game, which is more than one and a half minutes higher than last year and more than two minutes over his average under former Flames head coach Darryl Sutter in Huberdeau's debut campaign in Calgary colors.

Adapting to be more of a power forward, Huberdeau has had a lot of success scoring goals from the doorstep and has meshed well with former veteran Nazem Kadri
