Calgary Flames defenceman Nick DeSimone was assigned to the AHL Calgary Wranglers on Sunday, which leaves the club with six healthy blueliners on the active roster.
With the Flames playing host to the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday to kick off a six-game homestand, the club will likely recall a blueliner in time for the game or have one on standby with the Wranglers in the city until Thursday before departing on a road trip.
DeSimone, who has been a healthy scratch the last three games, collected four assists in eight games since being summoned from the minors on Nov. 3.
He would have required waivers by playing 10 games or remaining on the roster for 30 days.
The Flames now have two open spots on the 23-player roster.
