Ruzicka — who was afforded every opportunity to succeed — claimed by Arizona, DeSimone grabbed by New Jersey

The Calgary Flames saw not one but two of their players claimed off waivers on Thursday, with under-achieving forward Adam Ruzicka and depth defenceman Nick DeSimone scooped up by other clubs.

Ruzicka, who was provided a constant stream of opportunities from the start of training camp to prove he can be an impact player, including several games in a top-six role, was claimed by the Arizona Coyotes. DeSimone was claimed by the New Jersey Devils.

Ruzicka, 24, collected three goals and nine points in 39 games this season. He skated many games among the top lines and also as the fourth-line centre with very little results.

DeSimone, who was instrumental last season with the AHL Wranglers in helping some of the organization's young defencemen, netted one goal and five points in 23 Flames games this season.
