Big left winger collected 12 points and 114 penalty minutes last season for Boston

The Calgary Flames added forward AJ Greer off waivers from the Boston Bruins on Monday.

Greer, 26, is a 6-foot-3, 209-lb., left wing who collected five goals, 12 points and 114 penalty minutes in 61 games last season for the Bruins.

“He has impact when he was on the ice. We’re looking for a guy to help bring bit more energy to our group, a little more bite,” Flames coach Ryan Huska said.
“We’ll give him a great opportunity here.”

A second-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2015, he has played 108 NHL games for the Avalanche, Devils and Bruins.

“He’s competitive and that’s one of the things that we look for. We’re excited that we were able to get him,” Huska added.

It’s most likely Greer would step into a fourth-line spot for the Flames, who practiced on Monday with the following lines and defense pairings.

    Jonathan Huberdeau-Elias Lindholm-DillonDube
    Yegor Sharangovich-Nazem Kadri- Matt Coronato
    Andrew Mangiapane-Mikael Backlund-Blake Coleman
    Dryden Hunt-Adam Ruzicka Ruzicka-Walker Duehr

    Noah Hanifin-Rasmus Andersson
    Nikita Zadorov-MacKenzie Weegar
    Jordan Oesterle-Chris Tanev
