Veteran blueliner gives Calgary eight defensemen with one-way contracts
The Calgary Flames added to their depth on the blueline by signing free-agent defenseman Jordan Oesterle on Sunday.
Oesterle, 31, signed a one-year, one-way contract with a $925,000 salary cap hit. He is a left-handed shooter, although capable of playing on both sides.
The 6-foot, 190-pound product of Dearborn Heights, Mich., spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, and over nine NHL seasons with Detroit, Arizona, Chicago and Edmonton has collected 19 goals and 84 points in 349 games. He has been a NHL regular for the past half-dozen campaigns.
The Flames now have eight defensemen on one-way contracts: MacKenzie Weegar, Noah Hanifin, Rasmus Andersson, Chris Tanev, Nikita Zadorov, Oliver Kylington, Dennis Gilbert and Oesterle.
Only Weegar and Andersson have contracts beyond the coming season, with all of the others pending unrestricted free agents, and trades a very real possibility for some or all of them.
