The Calgary Flames insist they have turned a corner. Now is the chance to prove it.
A four-game road trip that begins against the Seattle Kraken begins a stretch with four games in six days as the Flames (6-8-3) desperately try to climb into the playoff picture. After facing the Kraken (7-8-4), the Flames meet the struggling Nashville Predators (6-10-0) before clashing with the Central Division powerhouses: the Dallas Stars (11-4-1) and Colorado Avalanche (11-5-0).
"It’s a good challenge for us, but I’m excited,” captain Mikael Backlund told reporters before the Flames headed out to the Pacific Northwest. “I feel like we’ve been playing really good, winning a lot of games, picking up points, so I have a good feeling going into this trip."
Calgary has posted a 4-1-2 mark in the last seven games, and sits three points outside a wild-card spot.
This roadie, with the games coming in a six-day stretch, concludes the season-opening spell in which the Flames play 14 of the first 21 games on the road. It also takes us to U.S. Thanksgiving, which has become one of those in-season milestones, at which the contenders and pretenders begin to separate and the level of play amps up.
