Backlund, Mangiapane reach key numbers on a night Calgary finally drummed up an extra-time victory
Milestones galore for the Calgary Flames in their 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Monday.
To kick off their four-game road trip on a positive, the Flames:
• Scored a power-play goal for the first time in seven outings, Jonathan Huberdeau’s first-period marker that gave them a 2-1 lead.
• Andrew Mangiapane scored his 100th career goal with 4:07 on the clock in the third period to tie the game and force overtime.
• Mikael Backlund assisted Rasmus Andersson’s game-winner in OT, to earn his 500th career point — the 11th player in franchise history to reach that mark.
• Oh yeah, the Flames finally won an extra-time game for the first time this season.
After a dismal second period in which the Flames were outshot 17-6 and saw their 2-1 lead — started by Elias Lindholm’s tally just 76 seconds into the clash — become a 3-2 deficit, the Flames turned the tables to remain perfect in Seattle.
Mangiapane’s goal capped a third period in which the Flames dominated by a 16-3 shot count.
Andersson’s tally capped a three-point game, which equaled his career-high.
Not to be lost in the offensive display was a solid 28-save performance by Dan Vladar to improve Calgary’s record to 6-0-0 in Seattle.
The Flames (7-8-3) are two points out of a wild-card spot and on a 5-1-2 run heading into Wednesday’s clash with the Nashville Predators.
