Happy Free Agent Frenzy!
As we inch closer to noon EST, plenty of NHL insiders have leaked deals that will soon be finalized and hinted at teams' interest in players. We have not heard too much yet on the Calgary front, but we have heard of their interest in one top-six forward.
According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, Calgary is looking to bring in forward Anthony Mantha.
Mantha had spent 3.5 years with the Washington Capitals prior to being dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights at this year's trade deadline. Mantha totaled 23 regular-season goals, his largest goal output since his fourth season in the league with the Detroit Red Wings. The 29-year-old, 9-year veteran would add some scoring and experience to a young Flames forward group.
The question is Mantha is whether he can return to the scoring form he showed early in his career with Detroit. While last year was an big improvement, it remains to be seen if he can consistently be a reliable goal scorer at this point in his career.
Despite this "retooling" the Flames are undergoing, they plan to remain aggressive. A move for Mantha would echo that.
