Four Calgary Flames prospects will have the chance to make their mark on the international stage after earning invitations to USA Hockey’s 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, the first step toward the 2027 World Junior Championship.
The path to the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship has officially begun, and four Calgary Flames prospects will be right in the middle of the conversation.
NHL.com was the first to announce the initial roster selections for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, with forwards Cullen Potter, Jack Hextall, and Ethan Wyttenbach, along with defenseman Mace’o Phillips, earning invitations to represent the United States at the annual evaluation event in Windsor, Ontario, from July 26-Aug. 1.
The showcase marks the opening stage of the evaluation process for the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland as each nation begins shaping its roster for the 2027 World Junior Championship.
Among the group, Wyttenbach enters the summer with one of the most impressive seasons behind him. The fifth-round pick from the 2025 NHL Draft exploded onto the NCAA scene as a freshman with Quinnipiac, leading the nation in scoring after recording 59 points in 40 games. He is set to return to college hockey next season looking to build on a breakout campaign.
Potter, meanwhile, continues to establish himself as one of the organization’s top young forwards. The 2025 first-round selection recorded 26 points in 24 games during his first season at Arizona State before preparing for a move to Michigan State in 2026-27.
Hextall will join Potter in East Lansing after a standout season in the USHL. The first-round pick from the 2026 NHL Draft put together a 58-point campaign across 59 games with Youngstown, earning his opportunity to compete for a spot on the U.S. junior roster.
On the back end, Phillips will bring a physical presence to the showcase after spending last season with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers. The 2025 third-round pick recorded 11 points in 44 games while racking up 187 penalty minutes before making the jump to the WHL next season with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
With four prospects receiving an early opportunity to make their case, the Flames will have a strong presence at one of the most important evaluation events on the road to the 2027 World Juniors.
