Sportsnet believe that the Calgary Flames will make a bold move at the 2026 NHL Draft, and it doesn't involve conducting a trade.

Immediately following the Carolina Hurricanes' Stanley Cup victory, the hockey community turned the page towards the off-season and began talking about next year. Sportsnet didn't waste any time posting their 11 Bold Predictions for the off-season, with their first shoutout going to the Calgary Flames.

Heading into the 2026 NHL Draft, the organization currently holds the 6th overall pick, and there are a lot of ramblings online that General Manager Craig Conroy may be looking to move up and grab a top prospect. However, Sportsnet thinks that the Flames stay the course and select the second-best Swedish prospect in the draft, Viggo Björck

The consensus is that Gavin McKenna will be the top pick, with Sweden's Ivar Stenberg going second. After them are some highly ranked defenseman, giving Calgary some intriguing options when it's their turn.

Yet Sportsnet believes that selecting Björck with their top pick would yield long-term benefits. At just 5-foot-9, the 18-year-old from Stockholm isn't the biggest center, but according to the Elite Prospects Draft Guide, he's "a hyper-competitive and highly intelligent forward who elevates everyone around him."

Björck was busy last season, making his SHL debut with Djurgådens IF and scoring six goals and totaling 15 points in 42 games. In addition, he helped Sweden win the World Junior Championship with nine points in seven games before making his World Championship debut, collecting a goal in five contests.

If Bjorck doesn't hear his name before the Flames pick, and they pass on him, it's a good bet that he still goes in the top-10, since 11 out of the 12 rankings listed on his profile have him no lower than ninth. If Calgary selects him, Bjorck would become the organization's smallest center.

Would this be considered a "bold move" by the Flames or simply the best strategy based on which top prospect is available at the time of their pick? Let us know what you think in the comments.
