The Calgary Flames have lost one of the most recognizable voices in franchise history.

Peter Maher, the legendary radio voice of the Flames, has passed away. His family posted this statement:

Maher became the inaugural radio voice of the Calgary Flames in 1980 and went on to call 33 consecutive seasons and 2,954 games behind the microphone, becoming synonymous with Flames hockey for generations of fans.

His career included some of the most memorable moments in franchise history, including the Flames’ 1989 Stanley Cup championship and the unforgettable 2004 Stanley Cup run.

Maher’s contributions to hockey broadcasting were recognized on the national stage in 2006 when Maher received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding work as an NHL broadcaster. He was subsequently honoured by the Hockey Hall of Fame.
