By virtue of the Rimouski Oceanic defeating the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-3 in double overtime on Tuesday evening in the second semifinal of the QMJHL Playoffs, 20-year-old Calgary Flames prospect Etienne Morin and the rest of the Moncton Wildcats have qualified for the 2025 Memorial Cup, extending the season for the alternate captain.
This is due to the fact that Rimouski was already designated the hosts and automatically qualified for the tournament. As Moncton and Rimouski had qualified for the QMJHL Championships, in the case if the Oceanic were to win the QMJHL title, the runners-up, in this case Moncton, were also to qualify for the Memorial Cup as the non-host representative of the QMJHL.
The young Quebec native has already had an impressive post-season with the title series still to come.
The QMJHL Championships will start on Saturday with Morin's Wildcats taking on the Oceanic for Game 1.
The 2025 Memorial Cup festivities start on May 22.
