The Calgary Flames announced today (July 29) that defenceman Zayne Parekh will not participate in Hockey Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase this week due to a lower-body injury. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution, and Parekh has returned to Calgary to be evaluated by team medical staff.
The 19-year-old blueliner is expected to make a full recovery and is on schedule to be ready for when the Flames open training camp this September.
Parekh, selected ninth overall by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Draft, is coming off a standout season in the Canadian Hockey League. He led all CHL defencemen with 107 points, cementing his status as one of the league’s most dynamic young talents.
Internationally, Parekh has previously represented Canada at the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
