Hockey Reference, one of the NHL's leading statistical databases, released its 2024 research findings.
Unfortunately, the Calgary Flames lost out to the Edmonton Oilers for the most-viewed team page from Alberta. At the same time, their captain, Connor McDavid, was the most-viewed player in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and, of course, Alberta.
The Flames were one of eight teams not to land in a top spot, including the New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks, and Buffalo Sabres.
Surprisingly, the reigning Presidents' Trophy winners, the New York Rangers, led the league with nine states, followed by the St. Louis Blues (six), Boston Bruins (five), and Colorado Avalanche (four).
As expected, the seven Canadiens provinces went with their local teams, with the two Original Six franchises, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, each claiming three apiece and dividing up the Maritimes provinces.
According to Hockey Reference's 2023 Year in Review, the Flames did not appear as a top search result either. Hopefully, some young guns, including Dustin Wolf, can flip the script on several opponents in future results and get Calgary back on the map.
