One of the top names in the rumor mill is Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman. One NHL Insider thinks there's nothing imminent regarding a possible trade.

One of the most pressing questions surrounding the Calgary Flames this offseason is whether Blake Coleman will start the season in the lineup or be part of a trade to accelerate the rebuild further.

According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, teams may be interested in acquiring the two-time Stanley Cup winner, but with a $4.9 million salary, there's not a lot of room under the cap to make any moves just yet. It appears that the days just before the NHL Draft, the market for Coleman is quiet.

In Calgary, Coleman is a valuable leader whose 10 years in the league are an asset, especially to the younger core featuring up-and-coming stars like Zayne Parekh, Matt Coronato, and Connor Zary. He's battled through 639 regular-season games and another 65 in the playoffs, meaning he's seen a lot of action against the league's best.

Heading into next season, the Flames have over $20 million in cap space and will have even more the following year. Ultimately, the question is not whether the organization can keep Coleman; it's whether the 34-year-old wants to compete for another Stanley Cup ring or remain with a team through a painful rebuild.

Once again, he's a valuable leader, which is why General Manager Craig Conroy hasn't already dealt him. Of course, Coleman also has a 10-team no move clause, so he's earned the right to dictate his future, which is a minor wrinkle to iron out in the event Conroy decides to move him.

Whether fans want to admit it or not, Coleman is one of the Flames' top scorers since his arrival, one of just three 20-goal scorers and one of only seven to surpass 30 points last season. When Coleman scores his next goal, it will be his 100th in a Flames sweater, tying him with Nazem Kadri for the most since the 2020-21 campaign.

Despite ranking further down in the assists category, he's sitting at 199 points in the past four seasons, slightly behind Mikael Backlund (241), Kadri (239), Elias Lindholm (225), and Rasmus Andersson (220) for most points.

Recently, Conroy mentioned that the Flames have a lot of draft picks, valuable assets necessary to continue acquiring young, promising stars to inch the team closer to contention. Realistically, he is also saying he's not interested in flipping a player like Coleman for more picks, but would instead be interested in acquiring NHL talent ready to contribute today.

Although the market is quiet for the Flames, especially after the blockbuster that brought Simon Nemec to town on Tuesday, things can change on a dime, and until the organization commits to Coleman long-term or trades him, his name won't depart the rumor mill anytime soon.
