Honzek made his season debut for the WHL's Vancouver Giants this past weekend and helped lead them to consecutive victories

Samuel Honzek had quite the opening week to his WHL season.

The Calgary Flames 2023 first-round draft pick, who was injured in the NHL pre-season, suited up for his first games of the season for the Vancouver Giants.

After Friday’s 4-0 loss to the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, the Giants responded with a 6-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Saturday and a 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs Sunday.

Honzek’s contributions were two goals and three assists. He also fired 18 shots on goal in those three contests.

Before the action, Honzek was named to the preliminary roster for Slovakia’s entry at the world juniors. He was also named captain of the Giants.

Also with the Giants, Calgary’s 2023 fourth-round draft pick Jaden Lipinski stepped up while the club was without Honzek. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward has collected eight goals and 21 points in 27 games.
