The Calgary Flames aren't expected to be all that competitive in 2024-25, but according to a post by Sportsnet, fantasy hockey fans should avoid taking all but one player on the roster for their fantasy team.
In a recent post ranking the Top 100 fantasy players for the upcoming season, the Flames had one, yes just one player in the Top 100. Coming in at No. 52 was Nazem Kadri. No other player was on the list until MacKenzie Weegar at No. 102, and then Blake Coleman at No. 109.
Of Kadri, the article stated:
-One of the few bright spots on the Flames last season, Kadri looked more comfortable in his second year in Calgary and posted a career high in shots on goal. He can still probably give you 70-75 points and more than 250 shots, so don’t sleep on Kadri just because he may be on a rebuilding team.
While fans will vary their lists and Sportsnet's post is certainly not the be-all, end-all of authorities on fantasy projections, it goes to show just how little faith people have in the players on the roster to produce points this season.
Interestingly, the one player in the Top 100 might not be a Flame for the full season. There is talk that, depending on how the rebuild goes, Kadri and others might be open to moving on. The Flames aren't ready to make more trades yet and GM Craig Conroy has asked his players to be patient. That said, if things go south in a hurry, speculation will ramp up.
It would be something if the only player to rank on this list wasn't even with the team by the time the season ended.
