The Calgary Flames have four drafted prospects skating in the OHL, including Zayne Parekh and Henry Mews. How have their respective seasons been?

The Calgary Flames have an abundance of talent playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season. Surprisingly, their top-drafted prospect, Zayne Parekh, isn't even the highest scorer in the league, which speaks to the depth the Flames have at the junior level.

Who else is playing in the OHL right now, and how have their seasons been through mid-January?

Henry Mews (D) Sudbury Wolves (58 Points)

Henry Mews was a third-round pick (74th overall) in the 2024 Draft. At the time, he was playing with the Ottawa 67's, skating two and half seasons with the club before a mid-season trade to the Sudbury Wolves.

In 38 games with Ottawa, Mews had 50 points thanks to 11 goals and 39 assists. Additionally, he collected 42 penalty minutes and was minus-5.

Since the trade, Mews has upped his points-per-game pace from 1.31 to 1.60, with eight points in five games with Sudbury. He's on pace for 19 goals and 93 points, which would shatter his personal best of 61 from last season.

Mews is the highest-scoring defenseman in the OHL, with 58 points in 43 games.

Jacob Battaglia (RW/LW) Kingston Frontenacs (57 points)

Calgary's second-round pick (62nd overall) from the 2024 Draft, Jacob Battaglia, is also having a memorable season with the Kingston Frontenacs.

Last year, the 18-year-old winger scored 31 goals and 65 points in 67 games. Since hearing his name at the NHL Draft, Battaglia has erupted for his best season of junior hockey. In 41 games, he's already scored 25 goals and 57 points.

Meanwhile, he's overhauled his game to turn last season's minus-15 into a plus-4 with half of the season already in the books.

Now, as an alternate captain on the Frontenacs, Battaglia is projected to finish with 41 goals, 53 assists, and 94 points, an increase of 29 points compared to last year. He ranks 12th in OHL scoring behind Mews.

Luke Misa (C) Brampton Steelheads (57 points)

For three seasons, Luke Misa skated with the Mississauga Steelheads, scoring 26 goals and 81 points in 2023-24. This led the Flames to select him in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2024 Draft.

Misa joined the Brampton Steelheads in the offseason and is on pace to surpass last season's career totals. Through 41 games, he's already tallied 24 goals with 33 assists for 57 points.

Moreover, Misa can catch his plus-35 rating from last year as he sits at plus-24. According to Elite Prospects, he's on pace for 40 goals and 95 points. Interestingly, he ranks 13th in OHL scoring, behind Mews and Battaglia, giving Calgary a trifecta in the 11 through 13 spots on the scoring list.

Zayne Parekh (D) Saginaw Spirit (51 points)

If anyone hasn't been paying attention, Parekh has been on the news for most of the OHL season. He wasn't invited to Hockey Canada's World Junior camp, but he showed up later and was among the first cut

The snub sparked his play in late 2024 and early 2025, as he recently scored five points, including a hat trick, in a 6-2 win over Guelph Storm on Jan. 18 to become the Saginaw Spirit's all-time leading scorer among defensemen.

After a 33-goal and 96-point campaign ahead of the 2024 Draft, the Flames selected him with the ninth overall pick, and he's blossoming into one of the top prospects in the organization.

Although Parekh is on pace for just 28 goals and 89 points, a slight dip in production, he's only failed to score in ten games this season en route to setting the team's scoring record for defenders.

In 152 career OHL games, he's scored 70 goals with 114 assists for 184 points, good enough for a 1.21 points-per-game average.

Next time, we will check on other Flames prospects in the WHL and NCAA.
