After a season made memorable by the rise of rookie goaltender Dustin Wolf, and ended on a sweet note on goals from Sam Morton and Zayne Parekh, the latter whose debut was highly anticipated, it's clear this is a team that relies on talented young stars.

Parekh is also expected to play in some pre-tournament games at this year's men's world championships in Sweden from May 9 to May 25.

So after Wolf and Parekh, I've laid out three other prospects drafted by Calgary, that are potentially next in line to make waves:

Matvei Gridin, RW/LW, 19 (QMJHL Shawinigan Cataractes)

A couple of years after being drafted in the 15th round in the 2022 USHL draft, Gridin led the league in scoring with 83 points in 60 games in the 23’-24’ season for the Muskegon Lumberjacks. He was named to the All-USHL First Team.

After being selected first overall by the QMJHL's Val-d'Or Foreurs in the 2024 CHL Import Draft a few weeks after the Flames drafted him 28th overall, Gridin showed no signs of culture shock, scoring 36 goals, 43 assists and 79 points (all highs by a QMJHL rookie) in 56 games in the 24’-25’ season with Shawinigan. His 1.41 points per game is fifth in the league, and his rating of +31 is a massive leap over the +14 from his last season with the Lumberjacks.

His 14 points in the 2025 QMJHL playoffs are tied for second, and have progressed Shawinigan into the conference finals where they are slated to face off against the Rimouski Oceanic for Game One on Friday, April 25.

Gridin, alongside Parekh, signed a three-year, $2.925 million entry-level contract with Calgary on July 4, 2024 with an average annual value of $975,000.

Arsenii Sergeev, G, 21 (Calgary Wranglers)

In his draft season of 20’-21’, Sergeev played with the NAHL’s Shreveport Mudbugs, where he compiled an impressive 14-4-2 record. The following year, he would go to the USHL where he successfully proved his skills were transferable. He pushed his luck by trying the NCAA route the next two seasons by joining Connecticut, but unfortunately, he produced a mediocre 19-14-1 record.

After transferring yet again, this time to Penn State, the move proved to be the right one:

In 33 games for the Nittany Lions in the 24’-25’ year, the Russian posted a 91.9 save-percentage, a 2.54 goals-against average and a 19-9-4 record. His wins and four shutouts were the highest in the Big Ten conference.

The 21-year-old led the Nittany Lions to a seven-game unbeaten streak from Feb. 7 to Feb. 28, and by the end of the season, he was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.

His performance enabled Penn State to earn a spot in the Frozen Four for the first time in program history.

The Flames announced Monday, April 14 that they had signed Sergeev to a two-year, two-way contract with an AAV of $866,250.

Jacob Battaglia, RW/LW, 19 (OHL Kingston Frontenac)

The then 18-year-old Mississauga-native was the Flames 62nd pick in the 2024 NHL Draft following a sophomore season with the Frontenacs where he scored 31 goals and 65 points in 67 games. He bettered that with a massive leap in the 24’-25’ season, leading Kingston with 40 goals and 90 points in 68 games with a positive rating for the first time in his junior hockey career with +13, while being named the alternative captain. His 40 goals were the eighth-highest in the regular season.

Currently, he has compiled three goals and 16 points in 10 games in the 2025 playoffs, as the Frontenacs are scheduled to play Game Seven of the conference semifinals against the Barrie Colts on Tuesday, April 22.
