On Day 1 of free agency, Dan Vladar left Calgary and signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers worth $6.7 million.

That left the void backup goalie spot behind Dustin Wolf to be a golden opportunity for 2025 AHL All-Star Devin Cooley.

The 28-year-old registered a 21-17-5 with a GAA of 2.94 and a SV% of 0.905 in 46 games for the Wranglers with three shutouts last season.

Cooley is in the final year of his contract, so this can be seen as a "prove it" season.

Of course, he will face competition during training camp from the newly-signed Ivan Prosvetov. The Moscow, Russia native spent the 2024-25 season with CSKA Moscow of the KHL where he posted a record of 20-16-2 with a GAA of 2.32 and a SV% of 0.920 with four shutouts. He was named KHL Goalie of the Month in November.

Prosvetov signed a one-year deal which in his mind is also "prove it" contract, with the hopes to strike an even bigger deal than the $950,000 for his current one next off-season.
