Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Charles-Alexis Legault will miss the next three to four months after undergoing surgery to repair multiple torn extensor tendons in his right hand.

The injury occurred at the end of the first period during the team's Nov. 9 away game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After laying a big hit on Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson, Legault dropped the gloves with Bobby McMann. In the midst of the fight, Legault fell to the ice and cut his hand on Robertson's skate.

Legault, 22, had one goal, one assists and a +4 rating in his first eight NHL games before suffering the injury.
