The Carolina Hurricanes didn't look great, but they were just good enough to win thanks to a Seth Jarvis overtime winner.
After a back and forth, grindy game, the Canes managed to hang on just enough thanks to Frederik Andersen and his 30 saves.
The Canes were also without a trio of forwards with Jesper Fast joining the injured list along with Teuvo Teravainen and Jack Drury. However, Brind'Amour doesn't anticipate any of the three being out for long.
Here's how the game went down:
Period 1
There was a lot of mucking things up in the neutral zone in this one.
What Philly lacks in skill and star power they make up for in determination. They skate hard and play fast which is an annoying combo to deal with. In a lot of ways, they remind me of the 2018-19 Hurricanes.
The Flyers used that speed to strike first off a scramble in front following a 2-on-1 entry, but the play was deemed offsides after Carolina challenged the play, so actually they didn't
Later on, the two teams exchanged power play chances, the Canes getting a few looks and then the Flyers completely blowing a long 5-on-3 opportunity with two misfires on open nets and then a goal post.
Period 2
The Canes got an early power play to start the second, but they promptly squandered it with some bad efforts on entries and setups. Then Travis Sanheim got a breakaway out of the box, but Andersen fought the chance off with the glove.
Not too long after that, Carolina turned the puck the other way following a neutral zone turnover by the Flyers and Martin Necas found Jordan Martinook streaking through the slot for a bardown finish.
The celebration was short lived though as the Canes promptly surrendered another turnover, this time to Scott Laughton, who did not miss his mark.
The Hurricanes would grab back the lead back later in the period again through transition.
Dmitry Orlov sent a wide clear through the neutral zone which Sebastian Aho picked up and then passed it off to Jalen Chatfield entering the zone who bombed it past Sam Ersson.
Period 3
The Flyers came out of the gate flying to start the third and really gave Carolina fits.
Wave after wave of speedy Philly skaters were buzzing in the Canes' zone and the Hurricanes were struggling to hang on.
And then about halfway through the period, they found the equalizer as a chaotic shift ended with Travis Konecny tucking in a loose puck.
The Hurricanes were outshot 16-7 that period and the Flyers looked every part the team setting the pace, but Frederik Andersen held strong and the clock ran out on regulation.
Overtime
The Canes however didn't need long to take the game in overtime.
After a Jake Guentzel bid on a 2-on-1 came up short, Brent Burns forced a turnover and took off with Seth Jarvis the other way.
He passed it across, Jarvis settled it and then ripped it past Ersson for the win and his fifth straight game with a goal.
