The New York Islanders started the postseason with Semyon Varlamov in net, but after two losses to the Carolina Hurricanes, it seems they're turning to a different option.

Isles coach Patrick Roy confirmed that netminder Ilya Sorokin will have the net for Game 3.

"Today we're going with the Ferrari [Sorokin] and we had the Cadillac [Varlamov] in the first two games," Roy said. "Today, we're going with the Ferrari."

Sorokin appeared in 56 games for the Islanders this season, posting a 25-19-12 record with a 0.908 save percentage.

While these aren't bad numbers by any means, it is a step down from last season where Sorokin finished second in Vezina voting as the league's best goaltender.

Entering the postseason, Varlamov was the hotter goaltender but with two straight losses, the Isles have to try something.

"[Varlamov] is a team guy, so is [Sorokin]," Roy said. "They're very important pieces of our team."

The Canes are no strangers to Sorokin, having faced him last year in the playoffs too where he had a 0.924 save percentage in the six-game series.
