The Carolina Hurricanes routed the Florida Panthers Friday night by a final score of 8-2 at Lenovo Center.
In total, 15 of the 18 skaters picked up a point in the win with Frederik Andersen going the distance in net.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Sean Walker, Josiah Slavin and William Carrier spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:
Rod Brind'Amour
On the new guys: They played well, the new guys, especially the backend. I thought Walks and Ghost were really moving it well. But you said it, the opponent dressed most of their minor league guys so it should look like that, but at the end of the day, I thought we did a pretty good job.
On William Carrier: He's a good fit, we knew that. We kind of knew what was going to happen with [Jasper Fast] there, so he's a real good replacement. Just fits in really well and I think he'll just get better and better as he gets accustomed to how things go.
On Jack Roslovic: He's got a lot of skill and he's been in the league a long time. He has played with top of the top players in the league and probably all in between. I think he can play all three positions which you know, those are real good assets. It's still one game and we're trying to get a feel for the player, but obviously he's a good one.
On Josiah Slavin: That was cool. First of all to get him in the same game and then for him to get the first one right off the bat. He played well tonight. He's a big body and you need that. Can't have all little guys. It doesn't work (laughs) so it's nice to see some of these big guys that can contribute.
On Ryan Suzuki: He's been in our organization for a while and I felt like he looked very, very comfortable.
On if he thinks Seth Jarvis will make the team (it was a joke): Is he going to make it? He better, we're paying him a ton of money.
Sean Walker
On his first game with Carolina: It was great. I think despite the score, we did a lot of things right that we want to make sure we bring into our game. It is preseason, but we're happy with the result.
On playing with Shayne Gostisbehere: I think it's good. There's a lot of communication out there. We both have the same mindset. We want to get pucks going north and then have some fun in the o-zone and I think we did that tonight.
On his fit with the system: I think the coaching staff has done a great job of implementing all the systems in practice and I think everyone's buying in. It's pretty easy to see what they want to do and I think all the new guys have done a great job of buying into the system and it worked well tonight.
On his first game in Lenovo Center: It was great. Obviously preseason, but still a great crowd out there. The energy obviously was up, we scored a lot of goals for them, so I think it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to it.
Josiah Slavin
On the game: A lot of memories. It was a special one for sure. We have like a five-year age gap so we've just never been able to play together as brothers so it was a special feeling being his teammate tonight.
On adapting well to the Hurricanes' style: I think that's kind of just my game. I'm not very much of a skill player. I just like to hunt on the forecheck and get to the net-front. So the style of play here really fits my game.
On the buildup before his goal: It was just kind of a mess back there behind the net and then the puck popped free and we just went the other way and everyone else just stopped playing. A good bounce for us and I'm glad Walks wasn't hurt either.
On having the chance to play with his brother: It's been awesome. I've been living with him for the last month so it's been fun to get the comradery together again and just compete with him again. We compete in absolutely everything so to be on the ice with him tonight was special
William Carrier
On having a good first game: Yeah, it's nice to get that momentum going with the new linemates, so it's good to be playing together and get that rhythm going.
On his line with Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook: It's pretty good. It's rare that I play with guys that work harder than me. They're paying their dues out there, they're having fun and they're working hard and it's great to just hop on that line.
On the appeal of signing in Carolina: I mean, they're right there at winning a Cup. They win 50 games a year, so they're right there for the Cup and I want the chance to win another one so I think it was a perfect fit here.
On how good it feels to just be able to play a game again: Yeah, it's been five months of scrimmage, 3-on-3 and just fooling around and that's not my game. I like to play the games. So just have to get ready. It's a long season and it's a little step forward.
