The Carolina Hurricanes just can't stop winning, picking up their 13th of the year with a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues Sunday night at Lenovo Center.
Martin Necas remained red hot as he extended his point streak to 13-games with his second four-point performance of the season.
Pyotr Kochetkov also returned for the Canes and stopped 29 shots in the win.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Necas, Kochetkov and Eric Robinson, who has a three-point night, spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:
Rod Brind'Amour
On Martin Necas: He's certainly driving the ship for us, there's no doubt about it, pretty much on a nightly basis here. Very, very good to see.
On what makes the Necas line work so well: I don't know. We added [Eric Robinson] in there and he's been really good. It's understated maybe a little bit, what he's been able to do and the kind of player he is. [Jesperi Kotkaniemi] and Necas have played together really for a long time, but this little mix is working. Marty's kind of been driving the bus, but those other guys are obviously helping.
On Pyotr Kochetkov: The first period, we were not very good, really the second period either, but that's what the goalies needs to do for us. Same thing last night. I thought [Spencer Martin] made some big saves for us at the right time and [Kochetkov] did too here to settle the ship a little bit and allow us a chance to find some sort of a game.
On having strong start to periods: That's momentum. You're coming out of a break or starting a game, you want to obviously... I mean, really, it doesn't matter. Every shift matters, but to get the momentum going, that's the key. That's what happened tonight. We weren't at our best. Give St. Louis more credit really. They were on their game, but that's hockey.
On the team being better than expected: I don't remember saying [people are underestimating us] exactly, but it was clear just by what everyone was saying early that we were going to fall off, and it's still early in the year, but I like our group. We have a lot of guys in here that get how the game needs to be played on a day-to-day basis and the people that we brought in to fill the spots that were left are buying into it. That's why we're where we are at this point.
Martin Necas
On why the chemistry with his line has been so good: I feel like we know our roles on the line. We try to talk after every shift, trying to get better. Obviously we've played together for 15 or so games and I feel like every game we're getting better. It's been real fun with those two because they've played really, really good.
On Eric Robinson: He's just so fast and creates space for me to play with the puck. He can score, he can do it all. Saw his dangles today on my first goal. He's been a really good piece for us, not just on the ice, but in the locker room. A great guy and I love to have him.
On feeling confident: Obviously when things are going your way, you're in the zone. That's what I'm feeling and I'm trying to get there and stay there as long as I can. Just like we talk about with consistency. Just try to bring it each night. It's not just about one guy. Obviously we're getting a lot of points, but we're also outplaying guys at 5-on-5 which is huge.
On his zone entries on the power play: It's fun. It's something that I've kind of practiced my whole life and I'm enjoying it. Obviously it's important to get the puck into the zone. That's how it starts.
On if he's superstitious about his hair: No. I mean, I dyed it once and it's just been there ever since. I don't know. But it's not about my hair. It's about my linemates, about me. I'm not really superstitious about it.
On if he'll keep it anyway: We'll see, we'll see. I don't think so, but we'll see.
On his mustache: I mean, it's Mo-vember, right? Gotta support the cause. You can see it there now. It's coming in.
Pyotr Kochetkov
On his game: I feel good today, yes. I had an extra day off. Today I felt good, had more energy. It was good through the game. For me, just play positionally and stop puck.
On the extra day off: My last day off, very helped me. Not always an extra day I need. Just sometimes I want to skate, feel puck. It's not for me. Just need to stay in my home and sleep. It helped me today.
On the coaching staff pushing him to take a day off: I want to always play. I no coach. Rod thinks better than me. I want my mind, my body ready for every game. I want to play, but coach think [better].
On Spencer Martin: Oh my god, yeah. I saw his game. Spence got the start yesterday. I don't know what to say, but he looked very good.
On consistently having partners that have produced strong results: My teammates, I have respect whether it's been [Frederik Andersen], [Antti Raanta], [Spencer Martin], [Yaniv Perets]. We all just do one job. We need to support together.
On Martin Necas: Oh my gosh. I don't want talking about him, because I want him to stay with what he's doing. Oh my gosh, it's unbelievable.
Eric Robinson
On his line: I think [Martin Necas] is the obvious answer, right? He's really hot and just a special player. But I think over time we're just getting used to playing with each other, getting some chemistry. Like I said, we're kind of just feeling good right now, so it's going well.
On if Necas' confidence bleeds over to him: Yeah, you can feel it. Confidence is everything and if your line's scoring... We've had a good stretch here and it's just a snowball effect. You just keep feeling better.
On seamlessly fitting into the Hurricanes' system: It's something that right when you show up, you kind of know you have to buy in or not. I think they make it easy though with the culture and the system to buy in. It's gone well so far.
On if the style of play was a reason for coming to Carolina: Yeah. I was in Columbus for a number of years and we were in the same division so playing against them was always miserable and something that I always thought could fit my play style. So in the summer, when they called, it was something that was exciting to me.
On making other people miserable now: It's definitely nicer to be on the other side of it.
On climbing back after the slow start: It's a back-to-back, it's tough, but it's really no excuse. Maybe a little sluggish in the first, not the start we wanted, but the power play came up with a big one at the end of the first. That's huge and you need that sometimes. You're not always going to have your A-game, but you have to find ways to get wins in this league.
On the goaltending the team has gotten: It's massive. Any of the three of them go in the net, you know you can rely on them. Just another stellar goaltending performance tonight.
On his goal: It's a good mindset that when you know the D are ready to shoot that you can just crash the net. Lucky on that one, the puck bounced right to me
