The Carolina Hurricanes will have to wait at least one more game to advance after the New York Islanders staved off elimination in a 3-2 double overtime win in Game 4 Saturday evening at UBS Arena.

The Canes had the early lead and found a late equalizer to force overtime, with Seth Jarvis and Stefan Noesen both finding twine on the power play, but the lack of 5v5 scoring cost Carolina.

Frederik Andersen stopped 32 shots in the loss.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with captain Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:

    Rod Brind'Amour

On the faceoff disparity: That was one area of the game we weren't very good. The rest... it was a good game. Two teams played hard. We didn't get the bounce tonight. That's how it goes.

On the lack of 5v5 offense: I mean, I don't know what the chances ended up, but I'm pretty sure it had to be pretty close to even and we had a couple of glorious ones in overtime. KK right in front goes off the knob of the stick. I mean, it's a game of inches sometimes. If that goes in, we're having a different conversation. I thought overall there was obviously areas we could get better at but I thought it was a decent game by us.

On the two day break: Personally, I'd like to get going, but it's also nice to get a rest and regroup and go at it again.

On Frederik Andersen: He made some good saves. I mean, both goalies played really well. Can't felt any of the goals on the goalies that's for sure.

On if this was Teuvo Teravainen's best game of the series: He made a nice play to tie it up obviously. He's one of those players that when he gets a little room, he's effective. I don't know what else to say. I haven't really looked at it.

On giving the Islanders some life: Of course they do. It's only natural. They're back in it and it gave them some hope. We've talked about it before though. It's tough to win four games in a row on someone, especially when the games are even like they are. It's not like it was 3-0 and we were dominating the games. It could have gone either way in all three just like tonight could have easily went the other way. We expected this to be a long series and now we have to focus on the next one.

    Jordan Staal

On his chance in double overtime: We had a few looks to end the game. Obviously it was a tight match. They got the better of it with just putting it on us and getting point shots. Eventually it's going to go in. We have to do it more. I don't think we were good enough at it tonight.

On the team's struggles in the faceoff dot: Frustrating. Myself and throughout the lineup at center, we have to be better. I think even tonight, if we won a part of those, we'd have had a chance to win that game. It wasn't great. We'll look at it and we'll be better.

On the getting to their game in the first overtime once they started winning more draws: Our game is having the puck and playing in their end and putting on pressure, but you have to start with the puck. They did a good job on draws and we have to better there.

On if there's frustration with the lack of 5v5 scoring: No. It was a tight game. They're playing for their lives there and we had our looks and we had our chances. Obviously you'd like to score 5v5, but there was some looks to end the game and we wouldn't be talking about this [if we scored on one of those].

    Sebastian Aho

On the lack of 5v5 scoring: I know that we have more [to give], but having said that, I think we had enough chances to score a couple of goals there. It doesn't always go our way, but there's another level and we need to get to it.

On if the faceoff struggles bleed over to their overall game: That's part of it. There's many areas that you use to get to a game, but that's one for sure. Often times, instead of having puck possession, you're chasing the game. That's one area we need to be better, myself for sure.

On overtime: I think in the first OT, we had some looks, but like I said, it doesn't always go your way.

    Teuvo Teravainen

On close chances in OT: In overtime there's not going to be too many chances. When you get a little chance, of course you always hope to see it go in, but it could have gone either way. The [loss] hurts, but we'll move on.

On what to fix at 5v5: We don't really need to fix anything. Just put a little more pressure on their D, create some turnovers from there, battle all over the ice and maybe get a little more traffic maybe at the net and get some greasy ones.

On the power play: Power plays are huge at this time of the year, for sure. We did a pretty good job, two goals today. So that's good.

On the game: It's tight. There's not too many chances all over the ice. You just have to be patient and wait for the chances. Maybe just give it to the D and go to the net and find the rebounds. That's it.
