The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 Thursday night at Nationwide Arena.

Teuvo Teravainen, Sebastian Aho, Brady Skjei and Seth Jarvis all scored while Spencer Martin turned aside 20 of 22.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Martin and Skjei, spoke with the media (Walt Ruff). Here's what they had to say:

Rod Brind'Amour

On the win: I thought we played hard. I felt like we just missed a boat-load of chances. Their goalie made a couple of great saves. It was a weird game and we let them back in with an offensive-zone penalty, you can't do that, but overall the effort was really high and we got the win.

On the second period: It was good, obviously, but I thought overall we were okay. Like I said, we didn't capitalize on a couple of our chances and [Martin] made a couple of nice saves. Overall happy.

On if it was the best game of the road trip: Yeah, maybe. It's hard to say. I didn't love our other games, but this maybe was our better one.

On Spencer Martin: He was good. There were a couple there where we left him out to dry and he came up with big saves at the right time. That's what you need.

On the road trip's success overall: That's what you have to do. When you're not playing your best sometimes, you have to find ways to get it done and I thought we did that. Had great individual efforts in a couple of the games to get us the wins and tonight was a better team game, I thought. We'll move on.

Spencer Martin

On his emotions leading up to puck drop: There were a ton. I haven't had a situation like that too often in my career. I was trying to work myself up to be like 'stick it to them,' but at the end of the day, I really enjoyed my time here. Especially seeing those guys in warmups, there were no hate or anything like that. It was actually really fun, so I was basically just fighting to stay competitive even though I'm friends with those guys still.

On his feelings after the win: Feel pretty good. My energy was there. I would have liked to stop the first one, but then what I really liked was that penalty kill right after. Got a couple of saves and felt really good again. It was really fun.

On staying sharp without a ton of shots against: I like it because it reminds me that I'm playing on a great team. Obviously you just stay mentally locked in. I'm not having too much trouble with that. I've been really energized and focused when playing.

On the final stretch of the game: Just sticking with it. Those things happen, but it's all about closing out the game properly and knowing that in a one goal game, that every save is really really important

Brady Skjei

On his goal: I was trying to keep the guy on my back as much as I could. I think I thought he was closer than he was and then I don't know. My instincts just kind of took over. Thought I would be able to contact it in and put it through the five-hole.

On if he's scored one-handed before: I don't think so. This is the first time.

On the team's performance: It was good. I thought the energy was there, could have been a little better, but for the most part, we knew that when we got pucks behind their defense that we'd be successful and that showed. We created a lot of chances from behind the goal line and they did a good job of getting in some of our lanes, but when you're relentless and keep shooting the puck, it pays off.

On the start to the second period: It was big. They definitely had their push and, especially on the road, you have to try to limit those chances and play your game and I thought we did a good job of that.

On closing out the game: They were tough. Every team in this league has skilled players and this team is no different. They have a ton of speed. Downhill they were trying to make some plays and they did a good job of that. Our D did a solid job and [Martin] was really good tonight.

On Spencer Martin facing his former team: I've been there and I know there's a ton of emptions going through it. He really rose to the occasion and played a really, really good game for us. He's been good in every game he's played for us so far. He's been rock solid. Lot of credit to him.
