The Hurricanes fell 5-4 to the Panthers Saturday night.

The Carolina Hurricanes lost to the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena in pre-season game number three.

Jackson Blake, Juha Jaaska, Jack Drury and Gleb Trikozov all scored for Carolina and Spencer Martin played the full game.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour spoke with team reporter Walt Ruff. Here's what he had to say:

On the game: I was happy. Other than 10 minutes of the game, we were pretty solid. We gave them a couple of turnovers that led to them getting their two goals and then they made a couple of nice plays on the other ones. But I thought in the third, once we got going, we were really good too. We had the majority of the play. It happens. Couple of young guys trying too hard on a couple of the goals. These are great learning moments.

On what those learning moments are: It's the high-risk turnovers that just lead to them coming the other way and then just taking breathers on the defensive end. That's what ends up being tap-in goals. You learn. You gotta learn from them. It's actually... you don't want to lose a game, but it's really good teaching moments for the young group.

On Jackson Blake: He's been maybe one of the better players, if you're being honest about it. He's very noticeable every shift. It's not just shifts here and there. He had the bulk of the scoring chances and was around it. It felt like when he was out there that something good might happen. He had his blemishes too like the rest of these young guys, but it was all from trying to put the puck in the net. He's definitely a dynamic player and plays with a little grit too.

On the energy Blake can provide to the rest of the group: These are special players and we have a few of them. They're young so they're going to take some time. You don't want to rush these guys, but you can definitely see the potential. That's exciting and we just have to keep doing it right and keep getting them better, but it's definitely very promising.

On his assessment of training camp so far: I think it's been good. I think the guys set the tone early with how well they conditioned themselves and how they came ready to go. Not just the veteran guys, but the young guys that we had too. I think we had three or four of the young guys in the top of the conditioning things within our whole organization so that's impressive. I think it's been a good start. Obviously it's preseason, it is what it is, but I've been very happy with it.
