The Canes beat the Flames 4-2 Thursday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Calgary Flames 4-2 Thursday night to pick up their third win in their last four games.
Seth Jarvis, Jack Roslovic, Martin Necas and Eric Robinson scored for the Canes while Pyotr Kochetkov made 30 saves in the win.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Sebastian Aho, Necas and Robinson spoke with the media in Calgary. Here's what they had to say:
Rod Brind'Amour
On handing the Flames their first regulation loss: It's good to win any time regardless of what the opponent's doing. We needed a win. It was an interesting game. I thought we were going really well and got up three and then kind of came off of it a little and then they put it on us. We were able to hang on to get the win.
On the two quick goals in the second period: It was just that we had good zone time. Like we were in their end for a lot of that segment of the game and then we were able to capitalize. No different than what they did on their goals. Kind of the same kind of thing.
On Sebastian Aho: It's the little things. We've gotta get the big things from your best players and they have to do the other stuff that everyone sees, but he also has to do the little things. When he's doing that, he usually has a pretty good game.
On special teams: That's kind of the game now. Everybody plays 5-on-5 so hard and that game kind of solves itself off a whole lot of the time and so you have to be good on special teams. I don't know that we were great on the kill, we gave up a little too many opportunities, but overall, that's been the difference.
On back-to-back wins: I don't know if the games have been great, that's for sure, but we're certainly playing hard and giving everything they can. That's all you can ask of the guys. Also getting some timely saves and that obviously is always a big deal.
On the line changes he made: That always happens. We're going to go through different combinations just to keep things kind of fresh and also to get a feel for the new guys and where they can fit in and help. Overall, I think we had 20 guys contributing and we'll take the two points.
Sebastian Aho
On being a relied upon player: I mean, as a player, you love that. You want to be out there for all the situations and help the team to win games anyway you can and obviously I've been trusted to do that and I'm just trying to make the most of it.
On how his season has gone so far: Personally, I only... it's okay. You can always try to find the ways to be better and today I'm happy because we won, but I don't think I played a really good game personally. Your personal goals go hand-in-hand with the team and when the team wins, it's always big.
On the faceoffs: Whoever wins gets the position of the puck and we were able to win some key draws. [Jack Roslovic] scored off of a faceoff play and stuff like that so it's a big part. You try to bear down every single night.
Martin Necas
On scoring his 100th career goal: It's nice. Scoring in the NHL is not bad. It's time to add a few more.
On the game: I think we were phenomenal until halfway through the game then they kind of took over. We weren't great in the second half but we battled through and [Pyotr Kochetkov] played great and made it happen.
On the mood of the team: It's good. We've had some big wins, played some good teams and especially tonight. A team that hadn't lost in regulation yet until today. Just a good start. It's always nice when you start on time and that's what we did today.
On Sebastian Aho: I think he's been great like always. He's consistent every night and that's why he makes the big bucks.
Eric Robinson
On the game: I think we got off to a pretty good start. Obviously we jumped out to a big lead in the second and then I think they kind of got to their game and we kind of fed into it a little bit. They had their chances, but it was good that we found a way on the road to get a win.
On fitting in: I think the message has been clear. Even before getting here for training camp, everyone's putting the work in and it seems like they're on the same page. They've obviously built a great culture here. There's really only one way and you have to buy into that. Obviously it works.
On Sebastian Aho: He kind of does it all. I'm very fortunate to be on the same team as him now and get to appreciate how special of a player he is.
On faceoffs: I think it's another big focus that the coaching staff here stresses. Being ready right from the puck drop. Being ready to jump, beating your guy off the mark and obviously you can see how big it is. You're playing with the puck, you have possession and it's more stress on them.
On the mood of the group: It's exciting. I think it's a good way to get to know the guys as a new guy obviously and bring a group together with a long road trip. So far so good and we'll keep pushing.
